Fantastic World: Fan collects impressive collection of a thousand copies of ‘Dragon Quest’ for NES

When it comes to collecting games, everyone has their own unique and often unique goals. For example, many gamers aim to complete the entire library for a given platform, while others are dedicated to acquiring as many titles as possible for multiple consoles.

However, Christian Deitering’s case is truly unique and will shock you: his goal was to collect a thousand copies of “Dragon Quest”, originally released for the NES. Yes, that’s exactly what you read!

This player’s ambition was to have a collection of a thousand cartridges of this game, which in the past was known here as “Dragon Warrior”. His journey, however, was not quick. This story began in 2012, as part of a challenge launched on the now-defunct NintendoAge forum.

Understand how this mission began

On this old forum, a user named K3VBOT shared an interesting experience: he had the opportunity to purchase old games from a store. It was at this time that another member, named Max Velocity, came across an abundance of copies of “Jurassic Park” for the Super Nintendo.

It was with this curious discovery that the ambition of a third person was awakened. Known as Space Jockey, he decided to start an impressive collection of “Dragon Quest”.

However, as time went by, the user ended up giving up on this endeavor and decided to sell his collection to someone else, Christian Deitering, who determinedly continued the journey until he acquired the thousandth “Dragon Quest” cartridge. And he succeeded, see? That’s what we call dedication!

The iconic 1,000th cartridge was achieved during the Midwest Gaming Classic event, but that still doesn’t mark the end of the dream of owning the largest collection of a single game. So while Deitering has already reached that goal, he’s still aiming higher.

The collector has set a goal of reaching 2,500 copies of “Dragon Quest” on his extensive bookshelf, which even includes a prototype of the game “Dragon Warrior Express.” Would you dare to start such a collection? Tell us in the comments!
