Elden Ring searches for three great wise beasts The puzzle takes place in Oridys’s Rise, Testu’s Rise and Chelona’s Rise – three places with turtles you have to find to open the doors. No, you’re not reading wrong – each location’s door is locked by three ghostly turtles that you must find and kill. And there is always one that is invisible, or at the top of a tree, or in one case, more or less flying.
You can encounter any of these towers at any time, depending on how you discover them. And this cryptic message to ‘seek the three great wise beasts’ doesn’t really explain much more than that. So you’d be forgiven for looking for a little help at Elden Ring when you run into them. But what do you actually do when you find these challenges and where are all the turtles? Below, we’ll go over all the turtle locations for each tower to help you search for all those wise beasts in the Elden Ring.
Search for three great wise beasts in Elden Ring puzzle explained
Elden Ring has three towers spread across its entire map – Oridys’s Rise, Testu’s Rise, and Chelona’s Rise – on the outside of each of them there is a sign that says “Search for the three great wise beasts”. What he actually asks you to do is find three glowing blue turtles nearby and kill them. Turtles are unique and usually only spawn when the sign is read, so you usually can’t pre-cut them. They’re also very well-hidden, which is why we’ve positioned them tower-to-tower below.
Rise of Oridys
Located on the east coast of the Weeping Peninsula, on the way to Castle Morne, this is the easiest of the three and the first one most players will encounter. There are a few stray wolves around the tower, but after dealing with those near the entrance, it’s possible to catch the turtles without triggering them. Unlock the tower and you’ll get a Memory Stone, an item used to increase your max enchantment slots by 1.
- It’s in the open, just behind the player on the northbound path from the tower.
- Gargoyle lurking in the bushes and undergrowth just west of the puzzle mark.
- In the small pool just behind the tower. This turtle is essentially invisible, but you should be able to see it through the occasional ripples it leaves on the water – attack where they spawn.
The Rise of Testu
This tower is in the Liurnia of the Lakes, north of the great Raya Lucaria Academy. It’s also a bit of a challenge – after reading the sign it will cause turtles to spawn, but also a large number of spirit zombies. They’re slow, but do a lot of damage if they catch you – stay out of their grip range. Kill all the turtles and the tower will provide you with a second Memory Stone.
- On the rocks to the north of the entrance, it is watched over by a skeleton.
- East of the tower, a tree branch is half way through the forest. You will need a ranged attack to kill him as he is out of melee range.
- In a lower part of the island to the southeast of the tower. You may have to go down to reach it.
The Rise of Chelona
These turtles and the Ascension of Chelona are on the elevated plateau above Liurnia and Albinaurik Village. They are the hardest to find and the most spaced out, you will have to traverse the entire area to find them. They are also much larger, but it makes no difference to the method and the puzzle itself. You’ll also never get to this area until you reach the optional Elden Ring Ranni questline and the secret ending, but we can show you how. Find all the turtles and you will be able to find a treasure chest with Ranni’s Dark Moon inside. This is actually one of the best spells in the game, Elden Ring is one of the best summed up on our spells page.
- It hangs over the cliff to the west of the tower. Look right over the edge to see it hanging there.
- It floats about sixty feet in the air above the spirit whirlwind you would normally use to bounce the Torrent.
- On a lower ledge at the southwest corner of the plateau.
What to do if turtles do not lay eggs
Some have reported an issue where turtles are not laying eggs and we are not sure if this is a glitch. However, a consistent theme in the reports of those who’ve experienced it seem to despair of relaxing at Grace Sites, traveling fast, or doing anything to get the world to somehow “reload”.
It’s unclear whether this was an intentional or accidental choice, but you should be able to resurface them by rereading the post outside of Chelona’s Rise. So from this point forward, don’t fast travel or relax at Sites of Grace! Instead, just go to the three locations marked above and it should work, despite more malfunctions.
