Today Sony is launching the DualSense Edge. For a modest sum of €240, which will surely give some people goosebumps. Increased customization, profile configuration, clean design, so this new controller is aimed at the most demanding gamers. This does not prevent it from having some flaws.
We mentioned this in our testing, it’s hard not to notice the drop in autonomy compared to the standard DualSense. While it runs a good ten hours, the Edge model only lasts for 8 hours on average. A concern also undertaken by Sony, which has acknowledged autonomy “slightly lower” due to its existence “More features […] same ergonomic design ». But that’s not the only reason.
DualSense Edge has a smaller battery than the standard version
This is indeed what a controller disassembly performed by the Budd’s Controllers teams reveals. Just look at the battery to understand: it’s significantly smaller than that of the standard DualSense. Specifically, the DualSense Edge is equipped with a 1050 mAh battery compared to 1560 mAh for its older sister. For comparison, the PS4 Dualshock is powered by a 1000mAh battery.
Suffice it to say that although this reduction can be compensated for by better energy efficiency, this is an element that should not be overlooked when approaching the autonomy of the controller. This is where these new features launched by Sony come into play. Indeed, these additions were necessarily made at the expense of the space available for the battery inside the design. You have to make choices in life.
