Cyberpunk 2077 Knowledge quest guide. How to find residue, scan security systems and find thermal clues

The Cyberpunk 2077 Information quest lets you scan a brain dance for information about a relic, security systems, and thermal cues. What you find will help you later, so you need to be thorough.

To find your need, you need to scan a timeline to scan objects Visual, Audio and Thermal layers. The timeline highlights that you’re close to something you need, but it’s not always clear exactly where objects are because objects can be quite far away and can sometimes get stuck in awkward corners.

In the Cyberpunk 2077 Knowledge quest we have everything you need to scan more or less in the order you should find them. I’ve seen more or less because you can only search for things after you’ve discovered certain clues, which can lead you to recheck past images with new information.

The first two targets are the bulk of the research, because you can’t really scan for thermal cues until you realize that’s a thing. Work with these until you have the option to scan the thermal layer.

Security systems can look deceiving if you’re not careful at first, especially since you won’t know how much to scan until you’ve scanned them all. You can actually catch four things that are part of the problem almost instantly – a few key items pop up in the first few seconds and there’s a lot to miss before you even realize you’ve actually started.

Scan / layer time – 0m10s / Visual

  • Military-grade cyber software – you really can’t miss the giant cyborg guard, so scan him as soon as you see them.
  • motion sensor camera – on this wall, up and to the right, just outside the elevator entrance.
  • Alarm system – this is on the wall just to the right and left of the elevator, on the way out. Scanning counts both.

  • Motion Sensor Camera – just in front of the giant TV is another motion sensor camera on the ceiling.

0m30s / Sound

Yorinobu’s phone call – At the 30 second mark, you will be prompted to listen to Yorinobu’s phone call in the audio layer. You’re basically told so it’s hard to miss. You can also scan the TV as an audio source to get information about cooling and ventilation. When the call is over, in about 1m30s, you will be asked to locate and scan the datapad for more relic storage. While you can almost always see the pad, it can be difficult to locate since it’s only on right at the end of the recording. Keep working on the recording to grab other stuff until you get there.

Turret and camera – About two minutes into Braindance, you will be able to look at the ceiling to the right of the TV, where you can see an automatic turret and the camera you can scan.

  • data book – Almost at the end of the recording, when Yorinobu goes to bed, with the datapad still open, you will be able to scan while you put it in place.
  • Weapon – There is a loaded gun in the chest at the end of the bed, you can scan the datapad while closing it.

Scan thermal clues to find residue

When you reach the end of the log and scan the databook, you’ll be able to turn on the thermal layer and rerun the whole brain dance to find the correct heat signature for Relic storage. There are a number of things to scan for that will make some blue gas stand out, meaning ‘cold’. Assuming you’re working backwards from the point where the thermal layer is unlocked, we’ll go through everything you can find in reverse chronological order. You can scan all the objects here if you want, but what you want is the Hidden Vault.

air conditioning ventilation – As soon as you unlock the thermal scan you will be able to scan an air conditioner vent on the wall.

Champagne and ice bucket – You can find and scan it in the middle of the timeline when people are around the coffee table. This is obviously not what you need.

Refrigerator – for around a minute you can scan through the fridge where Evelyn was drinking, but it’s still not what you want.

Hidden Vault – Right at the beginning of the recording, while Yorinobu and Evelyn are walking to the bar for a drink, you will see a short window in the far corner of the room where you can scan a secret safe on the floor. This is what you need, and scanning it will allow you to leave Braindance if you want, even if you haven’t completed the optional missions.
