Capcom considers increasing game prices: what does this mean for gamers?

In recent years, the electronic games industry has undergone significant transformations, both in terms of technology and business models. An issue that has generated debate is the increase in prices of games.

Recently, the president of Capcomone of the largest game developers in the world, came out in favor of this increase, triggering a discussion about the reasons behind this decision and its implications for players and the industry as a whole.

Capcom has not yet adopted charging US$70 per release, like other major game developers. electronic gamesbut President Tsujimoto argued about these fees and appeared in favor of the amounts charged.

Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto recognizes that Japanese developers also face inflationary pressures and is considering increasing the prices of their games. This change of position contrasts with the company’s previous statement that it did not plan to adjust prices.

If Capcom goes ahead with the increase, prices could reach the US$70 range, abandoning the US$60 standard, which could result in games in Brazil costing around R$350.

“It is important to train and develop human resources in-house to follow our growth strategies. I also believe that we can use external partners, but we have no intention of acquiring companies”, explained the executive during Tokyo Game Show 2023.

• Activision: Activision raised the price of “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” for $70 on next-gen platforms.
• Sony Interactive Entertainment: Sony also raised the price of some of its exclusive next-gen games, like “Demon’s Souls,” to $70.
