Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2: This change to the minimap scandalizes players

As you know, this end of 2022 will be rich in video games like God of War Ragnarok, A Plague Tale: Requiem and even FIFA 23. new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

This reboot of the cult episode that aired on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2009 is expected to arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 28, 2022. As usual, the Infinity Ward studio has planned a multiplayer phase beta. Opportunity for development teams Gathering players’ first opinions about changes, bugs and the overall game experience.

Modern Warfare 2: A major change to the minimap is controversial

Overall, the feedback is pretty positive, players have particularly welcomed the changes to slide cancellation, this overused move that allows you to chain slides with your character in Warzone and Modern Warfare 2019. Again, there is indeed an unanimous change. Indeed, and as Infinity Ward explains in the patch note for the latest beta update:

Currently we only show dots in MW2 beta (Editor’s note: Position of players in the form of red dots) enemy players only when one drone is active. The reason for this preference is that we do not want to punish the players who shoot their guns. We also want players to actively search for the source of the shot instead of going directly to the point on the minimap. We continue to collect feedback on how the game is going on this issue.”

by chance, this is a big change in the history of the saga. For years, players have been able to see the location of enemies on the minimap, as long as they fire a weapon without a silencer. Some abilities, such as the Cold One, allowed you to remain invisible on the minimap with or without an active drone.

In an other saying, players will now have to rely more on audio and visual information (sounds of nearby bullet hits, a teammate’s death token, footsteps, etc.). instead of constantly watching the radar. For gamers with a good 3D headset and a quality surround set, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue. But for others…
