The best Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Azumarill’s dominant build is based on the overpowered Belly Drum move along with the excellent Huge Power ability. Azumarill has quickly become one of the best tera raid builds in the game, and is a viable alternative to the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Iron Hands Raid builds that make the rounds. Both use the Belly Drum as their main attack, but Iron Hands specializes in Martial and Electric-type attacks, while Azumarill uses the Water and Fairy moves. We’ll take a look at how to best build the Pokemon Violet and Scarlet Azumarill raid below, including how to teach the special Belly Drum attack.
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the best raid build for Azumarill usually focuses on giving him the following attributes:
- Level: one hundred
- technical: Belly Drum (learned with Mirror Plant)
- technical: Liquidation (learned with TM)
- technical: Rough Play (learned through leveling)
- Capability: Enormous Power (either catch it or replace it with a Talent Capsule)
- Nature: Adamant (modified via Adamant Mint)
- EV Training: HP/Attack (via Vitamins and Feathers)
- IV Training: HP/Attack (via HyperTraining with Bottle Caps in Montenevera)
- Item Retained: Shell Bell (purchased from Delibird Presents in Levincia)
The focus here is on increasing HP to remove damage taken from Belly Drum, which maximizes attack power for offensive-type moves while also halving health to maximize attack stats. You’ll also notice that we’ve given only three suggested moves for Azumarill to learn – because the fourth one can be player’s choice and possibly chosen depending on which opponent you’re up against.
After installing Azumarill, your approach in Raid Battles based on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Tera types and Terastallizing should be as follows:
- Use Belly Drum to maximize attack and halve health.
- If the enemy has a type advantage, use Cheer to heal. If not, use an Attack-based technique.
- Keep attacking or healing as needed until the enemy rejects your stat changes.
- Heal with Cheers and repeat the process from step one.
It’s a simple yet effective process as Azumarill’s raw power thus generated can remove half of a Five Star Raid boss’s health bar in a single attack. Always make sure you are healthy before using the Belly Drum move.
Teaching Azumarill Belly Drum is a somewhat complex process that involves the stealth use of the Mirror Herb item that the game doesn’t tell you is capable of. We’ll explain how it works below.
- Head to Cascarrafa City and its Delibird Presents branch.
- Purchase a Mirror Plant for $30,000.
- Equip Mirror Herb to Azumarill you want to learn Belly Drum.
- Capture or evolve a Hariyama (this large Fight-type Pokemon appears all over Northern Paldea, but we had the best luck in the Northern Province, Third District).
- At Level 26, Hariyama will learn the Belly Drum.
- Make Hariyama forget ALL moves except Belly Drum.
- Have Azumarill forget a move so it only knows three.
- Put all your other Pokemon in Boxes so you only have Hariyama and Azumarill in your party.
- Have a picnic! Then, pause for a few moments watching Hariyama and Azumarill stroll around the picnic table.
- Check out Azumarill’s motion set. He should have learned the Belly Drum technique somewhere along the way in the empty action slot.
It sounds weird, but that’s because the Mirror Plant’s stealth effect allows the Pokemon to copy certain moves from OTHER Pokemon – but only once. By setting it up this way, you guarantee that Azumarill can learn Belly Drum and grow into a powerful Pokemon, especially if you’re playing Scarlet and don’t have a chance to add Iron Hands to your Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokedex.
