Angry Birds will disappear from Play Store, you’ll never guess why

We no longer offer Angry Birds. Created by the Rovio crews, the angry little birds have become a cult following over the years, to the point of being made into the cinema in an animated feature film named after him.

A remake that was very popular in Rovio’s eyes

For many players, it’s a cheap price to find levels, especially the first Angry Birds, with no ads or microtransactions. In fact, the play has obviously found its audience. But quite discordantly, Angry Bird remake’s big success doesn’t suit Roviothe exact opposite.

In an official statement posted on Twitter on February 21, 2023, the studio announced that it would surprise everyone. Complete removal of the game from the Google Play Store, from February 23. Reason ? The popularity of the Angry Birds remake It visibly hurts the profitability of other titles in the Rovio catalog.

“We’ve reviewed the business status of Rovio Classics: Angry Birds and have decided to remove Rovio Classics: Angry Birds from the Google Play Store on Thursday, February 23, due to the game’s impact on our broader portfolio of games.r” writes the studio on the social network.

A paid remake that outshines the studio’s free games

So if the game disappears from the Google Store, it will remain in the App Store… Under another name, namely Red’s First Flight. It’s pretty clever as a method. iOS gamers who write Angry Birds on the App Store will inevitably find their free-to-play games, not the paid version of the license. And what says free-to-play says more money for ads and microtransactions and, by extension, the studio.

Note that if you have already purchased Rovio Classics: Angry Birds on both Android and iOS, you can also launch the game after removing it from the Play Store and renaming it in the App Store.
