All The Last of Us Remake secure code combination locations

Last of Us Remake vault code combinations are found in artifacts close to each vault itself, usually in the same building or region, and there are four different cases and codes spread across the game’s twelve levels. Each safe is worth opening with its own treasures and rewards, and while none are required, it’s not too hard to get into once you know how to do it. We’ll cover the locations and codes for all the crates in The Last of Us Part 1 Remake below, and the contents of each, so you can decide if it’s worth the effort.

All Safe Codes in The Last of Us Remake Locations

There are four safes in The Last of Us Remake, located in the following areas:

  • safe on the outskirtsIn the underground metro shopping district where you have to sneak past Clickers.
  • The safe in Bill’s TownOn the main road with the barricade at the bottom.
  • Pittsburgh vaultIn the flooded lobby of the Hotel Grand.
  • Suburbs are safe, In the house next to the Ice Cream Truck.

Next to the safe codes for each area is an Artifact Collection with the code written on it as well as some other data regarding lore and characters. Once you have the collection, the code must be remembered and entered manually in the safe (the game will not remind you).

Fortunately, we’ve listed below the locations of all the safes and vault codes in The Last of Us Remake, and what you can expect to find inside them. Of course, if you’re still looking for something to find, why not check out our page on where to find all The Last of Us weapons, including special gear and gear.

After battling the clickers and infecting the sloping skyscraper, Joel, Tess, and Ellie will descend through the broken debris into a ruined subway and eventually sneak into a square, underground space where shops and clickers swarm around on either side. Both the safe and the code are here – make sure you get them before you go or you’re out of luck. This vault contains a large amount of Fragments vital to The Last of Us weapon upgrades.

  • Secure Code location: The vault code is on the left side of the field. Go to that wall and go to the store, then go behind the counter with the cash register. The “Note to Derek” collection is in a drawer.
  • Code: Outskirts Safe combination 03 – 43 – 78
  • Safe Location: The cash register itself is on the opposite side of the store – on the right wall – with an infected sleeper to its right. Kill the infected, then enter the code.
  • Contents/Prize: 50 Pieces

The safe and code on the main street in Bill’s Town is not very clear visually – one hung from barbed wire, the other next to an abandoned pickup truck in the middle of the street. You will reach this area shortly after starting the level, enter after Joel lifts Ellie over the fence to open the door. Bill’s Town also includes the first of the game’s many Toolkits in Last of Us Part 1, so it’s worth checking out our page to know.

  • Secure Code location: Just after you pass the gate, turn left and go straight down the High Street, past the trailer, to the barricade blocking the road with the sun lounger at the top. The collection “Note to Bob” attached to the barbed wire in front – will have the combination on it.
  • Code: Combination of Bill’s Town Safe 05 – 17 – 21.
  • Safe Location: The vault itself is on the main street. Walk backward and on the left there will be a pickup truck with a box on the road next to it.
  • Contents/Prize: 50 Pieces, 5 of The Last of Us boosts, Shotgun ammo

This is one of the more difficult ones – the safe is relatively easy to find, but the code is in a stalemate that doesn’t even seem like anywhere you think you can go. You’ll reach the Hotel Lobby in Pittsburgh after you find a wooden pallet on which to float so you can propel Ellie out of the water. This safe is definitely worth opening as it contains one of The Last of Us Part 1 Tutorials.

  • Secure Code location: Take the ladder on the left side of the lobby and move it to the back wall to the left of the ruined staircase. That’s all you need to do to move forward though – but that’s where it falls apart. Once up, turn right and wobble around the stair debris with your back to the wall along the thin lip of the broken floor (shown above). When you get to the other side, the code is in an open suitcase in front of you, above the “Note to Staff” collection.
  • Code: Combination of Hotel Lobby Safe: 22 – 10 – 56.
  • Safe Location: The safe went down the ladder from which you started. Go to the right side of the room, to the reception desk, go behind them and follow them to the small cloakroom on the left – the safe is there, against the wall.
  • Contents/Prize: Shiv: Strengthening Tutorial, 50 Pieces, Revolver Ammo, Explosive material crafting

The final safe in the game comes when you, after escaping the sewers with Henry and Sam, start walking through the suburbs looking for their safe (if you hit a section with a sniper, you’ve gone too far and will need to reload).

  • Secure Code location: Both the code and the safe are in the house, right next to the blue ice cream truck on the left. Get inside for the code and get to the loft as much as possible. The Matchbook collection is on a counter just to your left as you enter, with the code on it.
  • Code: Combination of Commuter Box: 08 – 21 – 36.
  • Safe Location: After you get the matchbook, go down one floor and go to the master bedroom on the left. When you enter a closet in the room, the safe is there, clearly visible on the right.
  • Contents/Prize: 10 Reinforcements, 50 Pieces, Shotgun ammo
