Savage Starlight’s collections of The Last of Us Part 1 comics are spread throughout the game, 14 of which are hidden in different locations. These comics serve as a small meta-commentary about the events that happened in the game, with white papers that refer to events and evoke ideas within the game, and can also go to your final score to try out new skins for Ellie and Joel. With that in mind, we’ll show you where you can find all the locations of the Savage Starlight comics in The Last of Us Part 1 Remake.
All comic book locations in The Last of Us Episode 1
The Last of Us Part 1 Savage Starlight comics first appear at the Pittsburgh level one way in the game and from then on become a rare, recurring collection hidden in various spots. Here’s how they break down level by level.
- Pittsburgh: 4
- Suburbs: 2
- Tommy’s Dam: 2
- University: 1
- Lakeside Resort: 2
- Bus Depot: 2
- Firefly Lab: 0
- Jackson: 1
This guide may well serve those who played the original or 2014 Remastered version of The Last of Us, not just the 2022 Episode 1 Remake, as the comics are all basically in the same place and can be easily found from the information below. With that in mind, we’ll be reviewing all 14 of Savage Starlight’s comics in chronological order that you can come across.
Of course, if you’re looking for more from the game’s collectibles, all The Last of Us artifact collectibles and The Last of Us Firefly necklaces are listed for avid treasure hunters – or should this be for Naughty Dog’s other franchise?
Comic Book 1: Force Bearer
This is automatically available when you start the chapter. Once you’ve dealt with the first ambush when you arrive in Pittsburgh, you’ll have a chance to check it out in your inventory.
Comics #2: Termination Shock
After seeing the bridge from afar, you will be next to a bus when you fall to the ground from the hunters’ building. Comics are in for grabs.
Comic #3: Spool
After looking for The Last of Us keycard and exiting the Pittsburgh hotel basement, Ellie will save you from a hunter. From there, climb the ladder and enter the next room. Exit through the left door to see a bar along a gap. There you can wobble where you’ll find another comic on a table.
Comic Book #4: Deep Stage
After meeting Henry and Sam for the first time, go down the stairs and open the shiv door behind which there are many The Last of Us reinforcements. Turn left to find a children’s bedroom where you will find a waiting comic,
Comic Book #5: Antiparticles
After initially washing up on the beach, head to the boat in front of you and check the cabin to find the comic book inside and a collectible next to it.
Comic #6: Messenger Snippet
After the sewer in the suburbs, follow the road to the house just past the ice cream truck on the left. Inside one of the upstairs bedrooms, there’s a comic book on the desk—admittedly a change from the last time in the Remastered version, where the toilet was in the bathroom. There’s also a safe in this area that you can crack with our guide to The Last of Us secure codes.
Comic Book #7: The Alien Element
When entering the level for the first time, you will go under a huge bridge and go downhill after seeing a car crashing with one of the best The Last of Us guns, El Diablo. When going downhill, hang to the right. Just before you pass under the bridge, turn right and look at the overturned car covered in moss – the comic is right in front of it and very laminated to withstand all the rain.
Comic Book #8: Zero Point
Much later in the level you will follow Ellie to a farm. Once you’ve dismounted and entered the farmhouse, go up and immediately turn left to find the comic book in the bedroom window.
Comic Book #9: Free Radicals
As soon as the episode starts, with Ellie and Joel on horseback outside of the UEC, turn around and get back on the road. Inside a car with a ripped door, you’ll find a comic book.
10. Comic: Uncertainty
Ellie begins hunting a deer in the snow, which eventually leads her to a broken wooden structure. As soon as you enter through a hole in the wall, turn left. This small room has a table with drawers – open it to find another comic book inside.
Comic Book #11: Negentropy
Later, Ellie escapes the bandits on horseback. Shortly after being forced to flee on foot, he will have to crawl through a short sewer pipe. The moment you come out of the first pipe, turn around and climb the steps – the comic is sitting on one of the overhead benches.
Comic Book #12: Precipitation
Find the right bathroom after going down the stairs after observing the herd of giraffes. The comic is on one of the stalls inside.
13. Comic: Catalysis
You’ll then battle blowers and rattlers by navigating underground and flooded tunnels. Towards the end, you’ll be near a vent that runs along the left side of the tunnel, forming a makeshift platform, where you leave a ladder to Ellie. Run to finally find a comic.
Comic #14: The Singularity
The last collectible of any kind in the game – after squeezing the barbed wire fences that Joel is keeping open, turn right to find an abandoned truck. The game’s final comic is inside.
Can you read the Savage Starlight comics in The Last of Us Remake?
While you’re doing some reading, you can find all The Last of Us Study Guides here!
While you can find all fourteen issues of Savage Starlight in The Last of Us Part 1, you can only read the front and back covers by perusing Joel or Ellie’s inventory, and there’s no way to open them and read the inside. As noted, back cover teasers implicitly refer to events in the game or relationships between characters, but this is the closest we’ll get to figuring out what the Savage Starlight pages contain.
And no – although many thought the Savage Starlight series was a hint for a future game or project when The Last of Us first came out, they never quite followed through with anything related so there’s no chance to buy it right now, read the series somehow or play.
