Elden Ring Memories are an essential part of character creation that gives your Tarnished hero a little boost from a small magical item. Memories all do different things to help you early in the game, so your choice can affect how you progress. Some will improve your health, others will strengthen your canteens, and some will give you little help in battle, but you don’t even need to buy one if you’re that keen. Here’s what you need to know about Elden Ring Memories, and which ones are the best.
All Elden Ring Memories
When creating your Blackened character in Elden Ring, you will be prompted to select a Souvenir for your character after choosing one of the Elden Ring classes. Souvenirs are small items that will grant you some type of passive buff, special ability, or that can be consumed to gain a certain benefit or impress your enemies.
Many of these Elden Ring Souvenirs can also be found in the Lands In Between as you explore, or can be purchased from Merchants, so you have a chance to pick up other Souvenirs. You can of course opt out entirely from choosing a Souvenir, but we highly recommend choosing one as it has no downsides. This is free help! Here are nine Souvenirs to choose from at Elden Ring:
- Red Amber Locket: A coin that slightly increases your max HP. It’s always useful for any character, but especially good for classes with lower Vigor and therefore lower starting HP.
- Lands Between Rune: A consumable that will give you 3000 Rune when used. Save Melina’s deal until you accept it and you should be able to level up on a Grace Site at least a few times.
- Golden Seed: A consumable that you can use in a Blessing Realm to permanently overcharge yourself your Holy Vial. This means you will effectively start the game with the use of five Flasks instead of four.
- Gear Imp Ashes: A free Elden Ring Spirit Ash that will allow you to summon the spirits of several Imps to fight on your side. You can use this item as many times as you want, but it can only be used when you have the Spirit Summoning Bell item, so you cannot use it right away.
- Cracked Cookware: You can get two Cracked Pots right away if you choose them for your Starter Memorabilia. These containers are used to make throwable bombs and will never break, so you’ll need to keep filling them with materials to have a constant supply of explosives.
- Stone Sword Key: Two stone keys that can be used on certain locks to break Imp seals that hide treasure and more. Keys break after being used, but sometimes in the world you can learn more to unlock other Imp seals.
- Charming Branch: Five consumable branches that emit a very short-range, pink mist when used. Any enemies in this mist will be enchanted and will stop attacking you, sheath any weapons, if any, and go about their days.
- Boiled Shrimp: Five consumable pieces of shrimp meat that somewhat increases your physical damage resistance, so you take less damage from physical weapon attacks while the shrimp buff is active.
- Shabriri’s Sorrows: This nasty head constantly attracts the aggression of enemies in the Elden Ring. We really don’t know why you would want this Souvenir, considering that most things would rather see you dead if not Shabriri’s Woe.
There are a few Memories in Elden Ring that stand out above the rest in terms of usefulness, especially in the early stages of the game. Others are just silly, with obscure or less useful uses for experienced players to try. Here are the Elden Ring Memories we recommend for a good start in the opening area:
- Red Amber Locket: Regardless of your skill level and the Elden Ring class you choose, a small boost to health is never helpful. The fact that it provides a nice passive bonus means players won’t have to worry about it until they start picking up replacement items. Even then, it can be saved for another time. This is a must for beginners.
- Golden Seed: As soon as you rest at a Burial Site, use the Golden Seed to strengthen your Sacred Vial to take an extra sip very early. This is another Souvenir that is useful to all players, and one that you should definitely pick if you are unsure. Casting an extra Flask this early means you can get a few more hits with the extra HP healing, or cast a few more spells with more FP juice if your Elden Ring class allows.
- Cracked Cookware: These unbreakable containers give you early access to fun crafting options and extra weapons. Obviously, you’ll get more as you play Elden Ring, but having two is a great start. Provided you find the right supplies, you’ll be able to craft damaging incendiary bombs that will be really useful against clusters of enemies or bosses.
- Lands Between Rune: While Elden Ring’s first few enemies aren’t a huge challenge, leveling up as early as possible should make fights a little fairer. Receiving the Lands of the Rune as Souvenirs is another great choice to get you started early in terms of increasing your Attributes and making things a little easier. However, the benefit of this will decrease the higher your class’s beginner level, so keep that in mind. Moreover can’t Use it until you accept Melina’s deal and level up in Sites of Grace.
