A Valve, the company behind the popular gaming platform Steam, recently announced significant measures to strengthen the security of its platform. This move came in response to a series of attacks from hackers which affected approximately a hundred small developers.
The recent attacks hackers on Steam demonstrated an increase in the sophistication of attackers. Valve has detected a series of unauthorized access attempts to developer accounts on the platform.
These attacks not only compromised the security of developers’ data, but also threatened gamers’ trust in the integrity of Steam.
Around a hundred small developers had their accounts compromised during the attacks. This not only resulted in the exposure of confidential information, but also caused financial losses and reputational damage.
Given the event, the Valve made a critical alert to the need to improve security on the platform.
Security reinforcement
In response to the attacks, Valve implemented a two-factor authentication (2FA) system for developer accounts.
This adds an additional layer of security, making it harder for hackers to compromise accounts. 2FA is a best practice in digital security and has been proactively adopted by Valve.
Valve highlighted that implementing 2FA is just the first step. The company is committed to further improving the platform’s security. This includes constant monitoring and regular updates to address emerging threats.
The Steam Deck
The Steam Deck, a portable console developed by Valve, was officially released on February 28, 2022, after some delays. The device promises a high-quality gaming experience in a compact form factor.
O Steam Deck is available in three models: 64GB for US$399, 256GB for US$529 and 512GB for US$649. The more expensive models include additional perks such as an anti-glare screen on the 512GB model and a Steam Community pack for the main two models.
