E3 will make a return in a physical release this year in Los Angeles. The legendary fair dedicated to video games will be held next June for the first time since 2019. Unfortunately for the organizers, not likely to be many
Many major publishers are expected not to attend this year. While some have confirmed they don’t appear, others are still at the center of the rumors. Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Ubisoft… They will underestimate the California living room. This does not mean that June will not be full of announcements.
E3 wanted to rebirth the 2023 edition
Some broadcasters choose to host their conferences themselves. Microsoft, for example, It will hold an Xbox Showcase on June 11, i.e. the day before the show starts. Ubisoft should make its announcements through Ubisoft Forward throughout the summer. As for Nintendo, we know that the company prefers to hold and announce online conferences at the last moment.
Here is the full list of publishers that will not be available:
- Microsoft
- nintendo
- sega
- sony
- Tencent
- Ubisoft
for now the show is still running for the month of june, but if E3 happens we can expect a little show. Maybe a chance for independent studios to shed some light?
2023 would celebrate the show’s rebirth. The last “real” version dates back to 2019. In 2020, it was one of the first major events canceled due to the COVID pandemic and then returning in an all-digital form in 2021. In 2022 this never happened.
A hard turnaround is therefore very difficult in a market that has changed drastically in recent years. Geoff Keighley’s more modern and intense Summer Games Festival has been featured in all media. Moreover, major broadcasters now prefer to organize their events separately, to have more control over their communications.
