This battle royale branch of Vampire: The Masquerade is a lot of fun, but since it’s not particularly good at explaining all the nuances of its gameplay, bloodhunt tips are something we wish we had. Why are people sometimes sad and sometimes good? What are the advantages of biting players over NPCs? Which weapons are the best and where should I go? We’ll explain all this and more in our top 10 Bloodhunt tips and tricks to help you dominate the rooftops of Prague.
1. Leave people alone (unless you bite)
People are located at ground level and generally speaking, you don’t want to scare them. Any human who sees a vampire player fire a weapon, use their powers, or bite someone will trigger a Blood Hunt, permanently marking your location on the map, then making you visible for one minute, even if you kill the observer. Killing people with weapons also triggers the Blood Hunt, even if no one sees it doing it.
The only time you want to interact with people is when you’re chewing on them for perks, health, and power-ups – which doesn’t trigger the hunt – and even then you want to be sure where you bite isolated humans. Others won’t notice you.
2. Stay on the roofs
As a rule of thumb, you want to stay on rooftops unless you have a specific reason to go down to ground level (like biting people or looking for certain gear). Roofs are always safer – you can see further, roam more freely, don’t warn people, and if you need to dodge an attack, it’s faster to run down (aka fall) and then scratch the edge of a church.
3. Biting enemy players gives you more advantage
Biting people can give you certain advantages depending on the person, but there is a limit to the benefits you can have at once – three at the start – until you branch out and call other players “Diablerising”. Each time they are bitten, you will receive new Resonance Slots that you can then fill with perks up to a total of 12.
4. Rapid-fire guns are better
While there are plenty of good guns to choose from, we think the best ones are rapid-fire guns – the assault rifle is probably king. Players move fast in Bloodhunt, even setting aside all teleports and special powers, and precision shooting is difficult at best. More experienced players can get by with sniper rifles and pistols, but new players should look for anything that can spray bullets – this will give them the best chance.
5. Ambush and make sudden attacks
The best thing you can do, especially if you’re playing solo, is to ambush a player. Get close if possible, then launch a heavy attack to take them down. The TTK (time to kill) can be pretty low depending on the weapons you choose, but vampire powers can complicate issues like the Enforcer’s ability to be indestructible. Hit it hard and unexpectedly – no one has ever won a fair fight.
6. Asset Crosses mark high risk/high reward areas
The Bloodhunt map is covered with red crosses marking the “Presence” – especially protected areas where some of the best loot is kept, including gold chests with high-powered gear, or even miniguns. However, they’re also guarded by AI humans with large, deadly assault rifles – and if someone sees you, they’ll all converge on your position and smash your health bar. If you want to take risks, try and do it by stealth using laser sights to find where the enemy is hiding. Then when you have what you need, get out!
7. Look for pink and red human auras
The best Bloodhunt archetypes will help you survive and thrive in the shadows of Prague…
If you are looking for people to empty, look for those with pink auras if you have Resonance Slots left. These bestow the Sanguine perk, which grants continuous, passive health regen and amplifies another Sanguine human each time you bite them. Literally a good advantage in any situation and has saved us more times than we can count.
Better yet, look for people with a smaller, red heart line on their chest if you’ve lost an empty life. These will actually give you an extra life, but you can only have one at a time. If you are killed and reborn, finding these red people should be your first priority.
8. Don’t forget to don the armor
Body armor is pretty rare in Bloodhunt, but it’s also pretty easy to get it unwittingly. Make sure to check your consumables menu regularly and use it if possible, as this gives you 50 HP above the max, it can be an advantage that can help you win the next match. Who doesn’t love this?
9. Choose your spawn point carefully
You can choose your spawn spot at the start of the game (but you may be slightly sidelined if there’s someone else on it) and even beyond that it’s worth considering as random high loot areas will be marked. Various attractions such as Entity Crosses and gun shops. Consider your priorities and be careful – many players often try to loot high-value items early, making them common firefighting zones.
