Atletico Madrid had a fantastic start to the UEFA Champions League first leg qualifying match against Manchester United at the Wanda Metropolitano. Rojiblancos scored in the 7th minute courtesy of Portuguese forward Joao Felix, who scored an own goal.
The goal came from Atlético Madrid’s left-back Renan Lodi in a great midfield. The first ball was cleared by Victor Lindelof, but it went as far as Lodi, who stepped forward and put a pointer in the penalty area for Joao Felix.

Joao Felix gained some space between United’s central defender and heroically launched himself towards the cross. He received the ball perfectly and the ball hit the left inside post and hit the net.
The early goal added an extra color to the steps of the Spanish club, which has always kept its form meticulously when United are in hand. They adhered to their duty of not letting the game flow by committing tactical fouls all over the field.
Atlético Madrid players would have been disappointed as they failed to add another goal to their advantage after the ball hit the post a second time in the moribund moments of the first half. Sime Vrsaljko’s head shot went straight to his face. Victor Lindelof and luckily for the Swede and his side, he bounced off the pole and went back for a corner.
With the score still 1-0, Manchester United will definitely go back to the draw and their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo will need to shoot all cylinders for the remainder of the match.
