“Southgate Out” – Twitter reacts as England beaten at home by Hungary in their biggest defeat since 1964

A nightmare to start Three Lions’ The League of Nations went from pretty bad to goddamn horrible at Molineux when the visitors rioted and scored six points in two games against Gareth Southgate’s side.

England are in danger of being relegated to the Nations League after they succumbed to a brutal 4-0 defeat at home to Hungary on Tuesday.

Gareth Southgate’s side was overwhelming in each of their first three games, but somehow it was even worse for Hungary’s visit, which completed an incredible double over the Three Lions.

Here’s how fans reacted on Twitter, especially when Southgate was targeted to step down as England manager:

Although England got off to a positive start, they found themselves behind in the 16th minute as the Stones accidentally flew back into the danger zone and were ready to crush Sallai Aaron Ramsdale.

The home team seemed to have raised the stakes after the break, but this did not herald any significant improvement. The match was trailed at the 70th minute as Martin Adam jumped on Kalvin Phillips’ fault before feeding Sallai, who was shooting a shot from Ramsdale’s legs.

Harry Kane’s header hit the crossbar and it was soon 3-0 and Nagy came in from the 25 yards. England’s agony was compounded by the Stones’ tough second yellow card after a hit without the ball, and Hungary rounded out their humiliation thanks to a cheeky chip from Gazdag.

England vs Hungary

Things didn’t look all that bad before it started, with the England manager naming a young and experimental player with a plethora of exciting stars on show. An early defensive error put Hungary ahead as Roland Sallai duly punished the hosts, and although England unsurprisingly saw more of the ball, the recent offensive ineffectiveness theme continued.

Three Lions hardly bothered Hungary goalkeeper Denes Dibusz before Sallai took his second 20 minutes at Molineux.

It got even uglier for England as Zsolt Nagy and Daniel Gazdag recorded both sides of John Stones’ red card for the Three Lions’ worst defeat since 1928.
