Portugal offer Jose Mourinho the role of national team head coach: Reports


Portugal reported to be approaching Jose Mourinho As Fernando Santos’ tenure is about to expire, he will assume the position of head coach of their national team. Selecao was eliminated from the 2022 FIFA World Cup by Morocco in the quarter-finals, which disappointed Cristiano Ronaldo’s last appearance in the tournament.

Portugal is already in the process of finding a replacement for Santos and La Gazzetta dello Sport has indicated that Mourinho could be an option. The seasoned manager is currently head of AS Roma and is focused on getting them back to the Champions League this season.

Portugal is trying to seduce Mourinho by offering him an unprecedented chance to rule both the club and the country at the same time. The 59-year-old actor is said to be very interested in this idea. Mourinho is known as an extraordinarily talented and well-strategized manager who has achieved great success in teams such as Porto, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Last season marked an important milestone for Roma by winning their first major European title in more than six decades and becoming the first winner of the European Conference League. In the past, he had been proposed as a contender for England’s head coaching position, but had turned down the offer. Still, it can be difficult to refuse Portugal’s offer to share coaching duties.

Fernando Santos to step down after Portugal’s elimination from FIFA World Cup: Reports

According to reports, it looks like Fernando Santos will step down as manager after the Portugal national team was eliminated from the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Selecao opened the tournament in Qatar by beating Ghana 3-2, followed by a goalless draw with Uruguay. Despite losing 1-0 to South Korea, Portugal still managed to qualify for the qualifying stages.

However, the match ended in a 1-0 defeat with the goal scored by Youssef En-Nesyri in the first half.
