Israeli-born and Academy Award-winning American actress Natalie Portman It is part of the ownership group of the National Women’s Football League (NWSL) expansion team. He joined this in the hope that they could facilitate a cultural change in sport.
In a recent media interaction, Natalie, owner of Angel City FC, said she hopes the club will help fulfill her dream of “culture-changing” among women’s football to bring it on a par with men’s football worldwide.
He went on to share a personal anecdote about how his son idolized only male superstar footballers like Messi and Benzema. This has led to a feeling of lack of recognition for female football players.
“As I watched my son idolize players like Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, just like Lionel Messi or Karim Benzema, I realized that empowering female athletes can quickly change the culture.” Portman told Guard via email, explaining how watching the USA women’s team during the World Cup inspired her to get involved.

Angel City FC, which Portman co-founded and co-owned, commands a female-led ownership group that includes: Becky G, Eva Longoria, Mia Hamm, and tennis legend Serena Williams. “It’s gotten to the point where we don’t have to look for investors”Portman’s Angel City FC co-founder Julie Uhrman said. “They came to us because they wanted to be a part of Angel City and they understood the role they had to play as an investor. This creates the best type of owner because they care about both the purpose and the profit side.”
