Kylian Mbappe and Giroud scored goals to help France take a 3-1 win against Poland, preparing them for a match against England or Senegal to defend their World Cup title. Giroud’s left kick, assisted by Mbappé, opened in the 44th minute and beat Szczesny, who had made 18 saves in the World Cup so far. With this goal, Giroud surpassed Thierry Henry with his 52nd goal to become France’s record holder for most goals.
Mbappé, currently the top scorer, scored a goal in the 74th minute after taking time to advance on the pitch and receiving a pass from Giroud and Dembélé. He then scored again in extra time with a precision shot after receiving the ball from Thuram.
Mbappe, 23, took a strong kick with his right foot and passed the diving Polish goalkeeper Wozciech Szczesny to give France a win. This goal equaled his tally from four years ago, making him the sole leader in the Golden Boot race.
