Real Madrid – Atlético Madrid Preview:
Simeone’s team have earned seven points in their last three league games after beating Valencia 1-0, Real Sociedad 1-1 and most recently beating Celta Vigo 4-1. Last week’s convincing victory included goals from Angel Correa, Rodrigo De Paul and Yannick Carrasco, but Atletico will now face reigning champions who have an unbeaten record of eight games in three different tournaments this season.
Real Madrid did not miss a beat, as was determined earlier in the 2022-23 season, which began on August 10 by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup. Los Blancos also won their first five La Liga games against Almeria, Celta Vigo, Espanyol, Real Betis and Mallorca, and top the list with 15 points out of a possible 15. Despite Barcelona’s significant spending and net progress, Los Blancos seems so. The club will beat this season.
The reigning champions of Europe also won their first two Champions League games, beating Celtic 3-0 on September 6 and RB Leipzig 2-0 at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
When Carlo Ancelotti’s team faced Leipzig last week, they were far from doing their best and had to wait for the first goal from Federico Valverde in the 80th minute before Marco Asensio scored in the pause to secure three more points.
Aurelien Tchouameni joined Real Madrid on a high-profile transfer from Monaco, and Antonio Rudiger joined the team after leaving Chelsea on a free transfer. These were the two additions the club made over the summer. Despite Casemiro being their most charismatic player, the team’s level has remained high this year, so it will be interesting to watch what the Whites can do.
Possible first line-up of Atlético Madrid:
