All of Ghana’s traumatic comebacks from 12 years ago are back as the country prepares to once again face Uruguay at World Cup level, placing them in the last 16. On Friday, the Africans will face the South Americans, conceding that one draw will be enough to overtake them at the expense of their rivals.
Suarez, a Ghanaian journalist, described him to many Ghanaians. “the devil himself” Suarez responded by refusing to apologize for the 2010 episode. At his press conference earlier today, he was consulted about the incident that rejected Ghana as the overtime winner and eventually expelled them from the 2010 tournament.
Instead of being sorry for his actions, Suarez criticized Asamoah Gyan for repeatedly missing a penalty and claimed it was not his fault that they were eliminated from the tournament. According to the reporter, the Ghanaian is looking forward to his retirement. As reported by The GoalSuarez replied:
“For the first time, I’m not apologizing for that. I’m taking the handball, but the Ghana player misses a penalty, not me. Maybe if I hurt a player, I’m sorry, but in this case I get a red card and the referee says it’s a penalty, it’s not my fault.”

Luis Suarez’s incident with Ghana at the 2010 FIFA World Cup
This is an opportunity for revenge after La Celeste won the 2010 quarterfinals in South Africa on penalties. Ghana came very close to netting an overtime winner in the 2010 game, but Suarez proved once again that he’s willing to go to extraordinary lengths to win with a header from the line.
Suarez was expelled and a penalty was awarded to Ghana as tensions flared. Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan took the penalty and, in a strange twist of fate, missed when the camera got close to Suarez, who was seen celebrating with his fellow cast members.
Penalties were decided at the end of the match and Uruguay won 4-2 after Sebastian Abreu, Andres Scotti, Mauricio Victorino and Diego Forlan netted their penalties. However, during the match, handball cemented Suarez’s status as public enemy #1, leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of a devastated Gyan and the entire nation of Ghana.
