Garena’s mobile battle royale game, Free Fire, is among the most popular in the genre, with more than one billion downloads on the Google Play Store. The title is now banned from the Google Play Store by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).

Why Is Garena Free Fire Banned In India?
More than 50 apps have been removed from the Play Store by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technologies (MEITY) recently. Free Fire was among the major games removed from the Play Store.
The news spread after the Ministry of Home Affairs announced the ban on Garena Free Fire along with 53 other Chinese mobile apps. The reactions of Free Fire players are as follows:

MEITY said, “These 54 apps allegedly obtained various critical permissions and collected sensitive user data. This real-time data collected is misused and transferred to servers located in a hostile country.”
Other major repercussions behind the Free Fire ban are expected to be the involvement of Tencent Inc., the same company that made PUBG Mobile, which was banned by GOI in 2020 for the same reasons. Although Free Fire Max is still available on Play Store and players can download and play the game as it supports Free Fire accounts with Firelink technology.
