Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – Xbox and PC Players Can’t Disable Crossplay

Xbox and PC players are realizing that crossplay cannot be disabled in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Activision’s latest version of Call of Duty is now live everywhere, allowing PlayStation players to turn crossplay on or off whenever they want. It’s no surprise that Xbox and PC gamers aren’t happy with it.

There are several reasons why Xbox players want to disable crossplay. For example, trying to stay away from computer cheats or avoiding computer gamers who have the mobility advantage of mouse and keyboard. Similarly, PC gamers often want to avoid console gamers and their aiming aid.

The PlayStation version of the game includes the option for players to enable or disable cross-play with other platforms. However, this option is completely absent in the Xbox and PC versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Xbox has a crossplay option in the settings menu, but when players try to load a playlist, they have to enable crossplay. On PlayStation, however, you can ignore the prompt in-game and continue the playlist with crossplay disabled.

PC players may prefer to play only with other PC players to avoid playing against opponents using aim assist. This option is enabled in the PlayStation version. Modern Warfare 2meaning PS4 and PS5 owners can only choose to play against other PS4 and PS5 players.

If the game wasn’t patched with an option to disable crossplay, the only way for Xbox players to fix this is to disable crossplay at the system level. This will disable crossplay for all games. Players can do this by:

  1. Go to the Settings menu on the Xbox console
  2. Go to the General tab and select ‘Online safety and family’
  3. Select ‘Privacy and online security’, then ‘Xbox Live privacy’
  4. Select ‘View details and customize’ and then ‘Communication and multiplayer’
  5. In the tab that says “You can play with people other than Xbox Live” select ‘Block’,

PC gamers do not have the ability to prevent crossplay at the computer level. Until Activision fixes this in a patch, PC gamers will have to play against console players.
