There are some welcome new features in YouTube Music, such as the recent update that finally allows songs to be downloaded for offline listening. Then there are others… interesting. Since yesterday, Google has been rolling out a new update for its music streaming app. First of all, this brings a brand new interface for the casting function, which allows you to broadcast a song to another connected device.
Previously, the dedicated button would cause a popup to appear in the middle of the screen listing available devices in the surrounding area. When you clicked on one of them, the application displayed a media player with the album cover, from which it was possible to pause the song at any time. It’s simple and effective, but frankly not good enough for Google’s liking.

The new interface is much less refined. This now appears at the bottom of the screen. At first glance, Google simplifies the process by displaying the most used devices directly in one section RecommendedThis prevents you from wasting time finding the desired device. But once chosen, everything turns upside down. The previous sober interface gave way to a new, much more comprehensive window.
While this still shows available devices, which can take up a lot of space if you have multiple devices, the album art is reduced to a small image next to the player. On the controls side, only the volume selector survives. The button to stop broadcasting has essentially disappeared: you have to tap your smartphone again to go back. Likewise, there is no longer a pause button, which means an extra step must now be taken to stop the song. Strange.
