YouTube is getting a new interface and it’s a real fail

YouTube

Changing the interface of a website is a difficult task. Often we run the risk of attracting the ire of users who have by then become accustomed to the layout of each element. Google is doing relatively well in this area. For example, the new design of the login page did not create any controversy. However, on YouTube the situation is a little more complicated.

It should be said that YouTube’s design changes over the years were not liked by Internet users. But the last one manages to be hated almost unanimously. Google has been testing a brand new design for the videos page since February 20. It’s like the order has been given to turn everything upside down.

Rarely has a new YouTube interface been hated this much

If you’re one of the few people eligible for this new interface, you’ve probably lost all direction. In fact, Google decided to replace the description with video recommendations and vice versa. The title and comments will now be compressed to the right side of the screen, making everything more accessible, but less readable. Instead, the suggestions take up the entire width of the screen, which can be a bit overwhelming.

Google’s goal is clear: to encourage users to further engage with videos by making the comments area directly accessible, and then to keep them on its platform by offering more content to watch at the same time. It is not yet known whether this strategy will be realized in a global distribution. The feedback from Internet users so far is so bad that it’s hard to imagine this being the next new YouTube design.
