In addition to the captivating adventures and memorable characters, ‘Shrek‘, the iconic animated film, holds a fascinating theory that sheds new light on the story of Princess Fiona.
Behind the fairy tale, an unusual idea emerges that reveals a surprising aspect that is rarely shown in films, in addition to challenging conventional conceptions about the story of the red-haired princess and her hidden secrets.
This ‘Shrek’ theory leaves everyone intrigued
A widespread speculation on social media and online forums about the film ‘Shrek’ suggests that the Dragon, initially presented as a reptile guarding Fiona in the tower, may have actually been a princess similar to Fiona herself.
The explanation suggests that the Dragon was a princess trapped in a dragon form, unable to be rescued by ‘true love’, which resulted in her state remaining.
The hypothesis is based on the appearance of a young blonde woman, present in the initial book of ‘Shrek’, and questions the identity of the princess portrayed, by suggesting that the Dragon could be that person.

The idea expands the story, by indicating that the Dragon, resentful for never having been rescued, possibly eliminated Fiona’s suitors and fed herself, which raises doubts about the disappearance of meals and the presence of bodies in the dungeons.
The presence of a cookbook for ‘knight cooking’ prompts questions about how a Dragon could have such knowledge.
However, the hypothesis suggests that, as an educated former princess, she could have reading skills. This peculiar plot would justify Dragon’s affection for Donkey and result in a favorable outcome for the story.
“We worked on this for a long time. I mean, how can we show that that potion affects Fiona and also Shrek? I mean, yes, big blue flash, yes, a flash. I think there was a point, because Donkey turns into a ‘noble steed’, everyone asked afterwards ‘Who does the Dragon turn into?’”, wonder the creators of the animation in the extra content of ‘Shrek 2’.
“And at one point we turned her into a Pegasus, a big pink horse with wings… and I still think off screen, she’s a Pegasus somewhere right now, wondering ‘what the hell is going on’ and flying around… and then she turns back into a dragon before the end of the movie,” the creators conclude.
