Super man, for many years, has been an undisputed symbol of comics. The son of Krypton has captured hearts and minds, rising as many’s favorite hero.
The pages of comics brought to life several Man of Steel stories, while movie screens witnessed his film adaptationswhich at times were a smooth flight and at others a turbulent dive.
In the history of cinema, a dark chapter unfolded in 1987, with ‘Superman IV: The Quest for Peace’.
The film, which came to light after its predecessor, ‘Superman III’ (1983), saw the hero face a threat manufactured by none other than Lex Luthor.
However, instead of soaring, the film became a monumental disaster.
With a plot that involved the creation of a being with the same powers as Superman, the result after its release on the big screen was not what was desired and ended up causing the responsible studio to go bankrupt.

The Cannon Group, which acquired the rights to Superman in 1983, believed it was destined for success. Investing a significant US$17 million in the project, the expectation was for a brilliant return.
However, the production didn’t reach the heights expected, resulting in devastating reviews and a box office gross of just $36 million. The financial disaster was so great that the studio ended up succumbing to bankruptcy.
Today, ‘Superman IV: The Quest for Peace’ can be revisited on HBO Maxserving as a reminder of a tumultuous time in the iconic hero’s journey.
After this setback, the ‘Superman’ franchise went on a 19-year hiatus, only returning in 2006 with ‘Superman Returns’.
This new chapter in the Man of Steel saga, inspired by previous events in ‘Superman II’, marked the rebirth of the franchise after a period of darkness, ignoring the last two films.
Thus, Superman’s story is an emotional rollercoaster, where high altitudes of success are occasionally followed by sharp falls.
However, the hero endures, proving that even in the darkest moments, the symbol of the Man of Steel remains immortal in the hearts of fans.
And soon the hero will have another film: ‘Superman: Legacy‘, which will be coordinated by the new DC Studios administrator, James Gunn. Production is scheduled to launch on July 11, 2025.
