‘Star Wars’: Yoda’s accidental prediction in HQ anticipates fall of the Jedi council

The plot of Star Wars” is full of twists and iconic moments. The rise of Senator Palpatine, known as Darth Sidious, to the rank of Emperor, is one of the most emblematic.

However, the Jedi, guardians of peace in the galaxy, were completely manipulated by Palpatine during the “Skywalker Saga”. But what few knew until recently was that Yoda, the wise Jedi master, accidentally predicted this tragic outcome more than 200 years earlier.

The “Star Wars” trilogy and the “Clone Wars” animated series chronicled the rise of Palpatine, who recruited Count Dooku to lead a separatist campaign, promoting fear and chaos in the galaxy to gain unfettered power.

The senators, manipulated by Palpatine, granted him this power in the name of security. However, the Jedi, including Yoda, remained ignorant of Palpatine’s true identity and intentions.

Yoda and the inadvertent prophecy

Yoda, the great Jedi master, seemed to have had a vision of the future, a prophecy that predicted the collapse of the Jedi Council, charged with protecting the galaxy. His prediction occurred during the events of the High Republic, a period that took place 200 years before the prequel trilogy.

A new chapter in the saga, called “Star Wars: The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight #1”, revisited this era and revealed Yoda’s meeting with an ancient fallen Jedi, Azlin Rell.

Yoda asks Azlin Rell, who was once a member of the Jedi Order, but ended up being seduced by the Dark Side of the Force, for help.

When Yoda introduces his guest to the Jedi Council, tension fills the room. At that moment, Yoda makes a statement that echoes intriguingly throughout Star Wars history:

“The Jedi Council should be disbanded immediately if it can’t deal with an unarmed old man.”

Although this statement may have seemed aimed at Azlin Rell’s case, it ended up prophesying the sad trajectory of the Jedi Council, which would be manipulated by a seemingly harmless individual, Chancellor Palpatine, almost two decades later.

Although Yoda’s statement may have been inadvertent, it revisited a valid question: if the Jedi Council is not capable of identifying and containing threats of this type, perhaps it should be disbanded.

‘Star Wars’ Complexity

“Star Wars” has always had depth and complexity in its stories and characters. Yoda’s accidental prophecy adds an additional layer of meaning to the narrative, highlighting the vulnerability of the Jedi Council and the ingenuity of his arch-nemesis, Palpatine.

The series continues to surprise us, exploring the ramifications of past events that cast shadows on the future of the galaxy.

The inadvertent words of Yoda serve as a powerful reminder of how even the wisest can be surprised by fate and the cunning of their adversaries, even in a galaxy far, far away.
