In some stories, whether comics, manga or even film or TV productions, it is common that, in some part of the plot, some characters have moments in which they experience romance. This happens especially if the story in question has been distributed for a while.

However, even with more than a thousand chapters released, “One Piece” avoids these romantic moments in its trajectory. Author Eiichiro Oda explained that this is his personal choice, mainly because of the manga’s genre.

This is because the author considers the genre of “One Piece” to be aimed at boys. Oda explained in an interview that the absence of romance in “One Piece” is due to the fact that the series is predominantly aimed at a male audience, characterizing itself as a shonen manga.

He argued that the shoujo genre, aimed primarily at girls, is better suited to addressing romantic elements in its stories.

Although some people believe that romance stories can fit into any type of narrative, Oda has his personal reasons for sticking to his approach.

Even with the increase in the female audience that follows “One Piece”, the author suggests that those looking for romance should look for shoujo manga, which are created specifically for this purpose.
