Following previous reports that HBO may license some of its original series to Netflix, the two platforms have finally reached a major deal. The Insecure series is the first to reach its rival.
5 seasons of the series aired on HBO from 2016 to 2021, currently available on Netflix if you live in the United States. This is obviously the first in a long series, as the deal between the two streaming giants ensures that a lot of content is received by Netflix.
HBO sells some of its series to Netflix
Deadline reports: Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Six Feet Under, and Ballers will also come to Netflix, and True Blood will stream outside the US on Netflix. The series will continue to be available on Max as well. The list includes several classic HBO series, but doesn’t feature the channel’s recent big hits like Game of Thrones and Succession, or some of the biggest games in its history like The Sopranos or The Wire.
This is the latest in a series since David Zaslav became CEO of Warner Bros. discovery. After HBO Max and Discovery+ merged into a single streaming platform, several titles were pulled from the catalog and acclaimed series like Westworld were canceled, but later released on other streaming platforms like Roku and Tubi. As such, this isn’t the first time HBO is lending some of its original content. A few months ago, the dev had to sell The Last of Us to Amazon Prime Video in France, as its own Max platform was not available here.
At any rate, this is great news for consumers, because the cost of subscribing to many streaming platforms to watch their favorite series is often one of the most common complaints. Now, after the scope of this agreement and what we have mentioned above, it is wondered which series will come to Netflix.
