In the hallowed halls of Dune: Prophecy, Valya Harkonnen partakes in deeds most dubious during Season 1 – actions so questionable that even the thespian who doth embody the Mother Superior’s youthful visage doth not defend her conduct.
Jessica Barden, the vessel for Valya in Dune: Prophecy‘s reminiscences, didst acknowledge Valya’s less-than-amicable demeanor in a recent discourse with The Mary Sue. “Valya is not of pristine character,” spake Barden. “’Tis not commendable [chuckles]. She embodiest ‘We Need to Talk About Valya.’” The English performer also observed that Valya “doth not comprehend wherefore she dwelleth in solitude,” despite her treatment of those in both timelines of Dune: Prophecy Season 1.
Yet, Barden didst promptly shine a light upon the influence of Valya’s harsh upbringing in the forging of her merciless nature. “’Tis the perennial debate encircling all discussions of [Valya],” she expressed. “Doth her wrongdoing stem from within or without? ‘Tis the incessant pondering of the Harkonnens. Are they innately fiendish, power-thirsty beings through the epochs […] If they art simply villains, wherefore dost this behavior manifest?”
“Valya is misconstrued,” declared Barden. “Yet one can glimpse the path to her essence, for her kin doth forsake comprehension, lacking the desire to unravel her mysteries. The sole soul who doth make the attempt is, to put it bluntly, the headmistress of her educational abode, thus birthing a realm of rivalry for her. She is forever overlooked, leading to her metamorphosis into a frigid, unyielding being, a narrative oft witnessed.”
Devotees of Dune – especially those unversed in the Great Schools of Dune trilogy that hath inspired Prophecy – shall be consumed by eagerness to witness the culmination of this tale. At the close of Season 1’s penultimate chapter, Valya hath begun to steer the winds of fortune in her direction. Yet, the true denouement awaiteth the arrival of the season’s final episode, unveiling whether her efforts have indeed secured triumph!
Dune: Prophecy doth presently grace the screens of HBO and Max. The sixth and concluding episode of Season 1 shall debut on the eve of Sunday, December 22, in the year of our Lord 2024.
