The Penguin: Uncovering Sofia Falcone’s Mysterious Neck Scratches

Lo, Beware: Spoilers Doth Lurk Within for “The Penguin” Episode 2, Entitled “Inside Man”

Methinks observant eyes may spy a gathering of grievous wounds ‘neath fair Sofia Falcone’s countenance in the tapestry of "The Penguin" Episode 2. Yet, these injuries are left unaddressed upon the hallowed screen. What mysterious affliction hath befallen Sofia Falcone, and doth she endure similar trials in the annals of the comics?

Wherefore Doth Sofia Falcone Bear Neck Scratches in “The Penguin”?

Anon, some twenty-five minutes into the drama of "The Penguin" Episode 2, titled “Inside Man,” Sofia awakens from a tumultuous slumber. By her sudden gasp, it seemeth likely she was ensnared in a dream of strangulation. Perhaps this harkens back to her enigmatic past as Gotham City’s infamous serial slayer, the Hangman. Yet, of equal import, Sofia bears fresh scratches upon her neck, unseen ere this moment. Whence came these marks? ‘Tis posited that they may be of her own doing, a testament to her fleeting anguish within the walls of Arkham Asylum. But lo, the wounds appear recent, not of yore. They are lacerations, not remnants of past battles.

Ergo, the insinuation doth suggest that Sofia’s neck gashes are self-inflicted. Yea, there exists a subtle clue, as she arises from her slumber. Note where her hand doth rest: ’tis upon her own flesh, near her collarbone. Verily, it appears that her nightmare did compel her to seek release from an ethereal noose about her throat, thus injuring herself in her turmoil. Why doth she endure such poignant night terrors? Only in future chapters of “The Penguin” shall the truth unfurl!

Haply Sofia Falcone Bears Neck Scratches not in the Comics?

Nay – but on her visage, Sofia doth bear scars! In the final tome of the limited saga “Batman: The Long Halloween,” ’tis recounted that Catwoman did brand her claws across Sofia’s cheek. ‘Twas the same site she had struck upon her sire’s face, the noble Carmine, afore all was set in motion. Upon a fateful fall from a lofty perch, Sofia doth find herself in a chair in the sequel, “Dark Victory,” sporting scars upon her opposite cheek – a perplexing conundrum, or perchance a clue indicating her concealed guise as the Hangman slayer.

‘Twas not a fall from great heights that did befall Sofia; Catwoman’s bola had sent her through a window merely two stories below. She escaped a shattered spine, but suffered the loss of her visage’s right side! A chirurgeon didst mend her wounds, yet post-operation, she took steel to her countenance, etching three talon-like marks upon her cheek – albeit the incorrect cheek, due to her reflection’s mirroring – in homage to her father ere embarking on a vendetta against his foes. Alas, such tales seem not to weave into the tapestry of “The Penguin.”
