The recent installment of “Agatha All Along” prominently shines a spotlight on Eddie, the paramour of Billy Maximoff/William Kaplan. Yet, could it be that “Eddie” is, in fact, a representation of a significant Marvel character? Has “Agatha All Along” slyly ushered in Hulkling into the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Who, one might ask, is Hulkling within the annals of Marvel Comics lore?
Conceived by the creative minds of Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung for the 2000s series “Young Avengers,” Hulkling is the heroic guise adopted by Theodore “Teddy” Altman. Despite his moniker, he does not hail from the Hulk lineage; rather, he is a Kree-Skrull hybrid. Possessing a distinctive lineage, Hulkling is an adept shapeshifter – his mimicry of a youthful Hulk merely scratches the surface of his capabilities – and exudes immense strength and resilience.
Nonetheless, Teddy’s extraterrestrial heritage and formidable powers are not his most renowned attributes. That distinction is reserved for his amorous entanglement with another Young Avenger, Billy Kaplan/Wiccan. Together, they stand as arguably Marvel’s most prominent LGBTQ+ duo. Their union was solidified with nuptials during the 2020 crossover event “Empyre,” marking Marvel’s inaugural LGBTQ+ marriage. Consequently, a fervor among Marvel enthusiasts for Teddy/Hulking’s inclusion in the MCU is palpable!
Could it be that Hulkling makes a cameo in Episode 6 of “Agatha All Along”?
Perhaps, contingent upon Miles Gutierrez-Riley’s portrayal of Eddie as MCU’s iteration of Teddy. Presently, it remains indeterminate if this conjecture holds merit; nevertheless, Billy Maximoff/William Kaplan’s allusion to Eddie’s musculature might serve as an oblique reference to Teddy’s (albeit more robust) physique in the comics. Furthermore, Eddie appears as an exceptionally supportive partner, aligning with Hulkling’s established portrayal in literature.
Yet, a quandary emerges regarding the “Eddie is Hulkling” supposition: “Eddie” is not typically a diminutive of Theodore. This obstacle, though not insurmountable, suggests that audiences may need to exercise patience in anticipation of Hulkling’s transition to live-action media.
