Marvel Cinematic Universe enthusiasts, hear ye, hear ye! The latest episode of “Daredevil: Born Again,” titled “Sic Semper Systema,” has sparked a debate among fans regarding a possible nod to the infamous Doctor Doom, nemesis of the Fantastic Four. But dost thou truly believe that “Daredevil” Season 1, Episode 4 doth contain a Doctor Doom Easter egg, or hath the MCU devotees been led astray?
Verily, it hath been revealed that “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 1, Episode 4 maketh no mention of a Doctor Doom Easter egg. Whilst some loyal MCU aficionados thought they caught wind of characters such as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin uttering the name of Doom’s fictional homeland, Latveria, they actually spake of “Latvia.” A land grounded in reality, not the fictional domain ruled by Doom.
‘Tis not surprising that many assumed “Born Again” referenced Latveria, for the show hath already paid homage to the broader MCU canon on several occasions. Fisk himself doth acknowledge none other than Spider-Man, one of the universe’s most iconic heroes, in the premiere of “Born Again.”
Alas, a nod to the Fantastic Four in the form of an Easter egg would not have been beyond belief, had it come to pass.
But lo, the question doth arise – doth Latveria exist in the MCU already? Thus far, the answer is nay. The MCU hath not uttered nor shown Latveria in any of its canonical works. However, in the 2008 “Incredible Hulk” tie-in game (though non-canon), the Latverian embassy doth make an appearance amidst the virtual landmarks of New York City.
‘Tis speculated, though not confirmed, that Latveria may make an appearance in the MCU in the foreseeable future. With Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom taking the mantle from Kang the Conqueror in the fifth “Avengers” film, one canst only expect a glimpse of the villain’s realm in that cinematic endeavor.
“Daredevil: Born Again” doth currently grace the screens of Disney+, with new episodes being unveiled on Tuesdays. The saga continues, with mysteries and possible Easter eggs awaiting discovery in the realm of the MCU.
