Marvel admits it is losing what made it great; understand

A Marvel Comics has admitted that his Multiverse is losing the very thing that made it great in the eyes of fans, as the stakes of battles between variants in different timelines are starting to lose their luster. In the new comic series “Crypt of Shadows #1”, Wolverine fights the Man-Thing with the goal of recruiting him for his latest, universe-destroying battle.

In this, it is during this encounter that the narrator of the fight himself ends up admitting that stories of the Multiverse with high stakes have a tendency to be confused as one.

The Marvel Multiverse has always been a very important part of the comic book narrative. With different timelines and versions of characters outside of the Earth-616 universe, its plots have allowed the publisher to tell other types of stories with new versions of heroes, villains and settings.

However, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe embracing the Multiverse, Marvel Comics has also increased the role of universe-traveling adventures. This includes a group of the most important Avengers in different realities battling the Evil Masters of the Multiverses.

However, when thousands of versions exist (e.g. Mephisto, Mjolnir, and other characters and weapons), this ends up making their impact and presence seem less important, as a singular threat with several thousand other opposing versions in the Multiverse ends up reducing its value.

In the new comic book series “Crypt of Shadows #1”, in the story “Endless Slaughter in the Infinite Swamp”, a battle has been going on for hundreds of millions of years in different realities between “Man-Thing” and “Wolverine”.

In this, Laura Kinney tries to recruit this swamp creature so that she can receive help in “that week’s desperate superheroic struggle to try to save the world and/or the Universe and/or the Multiverse in its vast infinity”.

A note made by the narrator, however, later adds that the stakes of the battles become confused after a certain time.

Marvel’s Multiverse Has a Big Problem

While the references to this kind of final battle in the Multiverse are a bit tongue-in-cheek in this particular issue, Jason Aaron’s Avengers proved that a lot of that ends up being a problem. This story was supposed to be epic, but it lost all steam because it continually introduced the most powerful heroes over and over again.

The stakes that the Universe consists of seem quite light, proving that the Multiverse is losing what made it something magnificent. This is because, instead of showing readers hundreds of “Mephistos” or “Thors”, there are only one or two variants for the characters to become more special, an example of an idea that emerged in the current season of “Avengers”.

Ultimately, the stakes of the final Multiverse battles in the pages of Marvel Comics have gotten a bit mixed up and lost what made them great. With so many things from the Multiverse appearing in their stories, it’s hard to argue for the grand scale of Marvel Comics, and they’ve lost what was essential to begin with. In short, at this point, it’s a good idea to scale things back a bit in order to get the stakes back.
