Manga vs. Comics: post on Twitter generates debates about the future of comics

Comics and manga have a wide range of fans around the world. However, while the manga were a little more excluded in the 1990s, comics they were having the biggest success in the world with their sales.

However, nowadays, with the popularization of Asian works, it seems that this panorama has changed. And it was exactly this debate that an image ended up generating on social media.

On Twitter, user @Java_jigga posted an image that shows an entire shelf filled with manga, while on the opposite side of the shelf there was only a small portion of comics.

The photo ended up going viral and attracted more than 8 million views, as well as a unique conversation among network users.

Despite the argument, Ursula’s account fell. The photo had been shared on March 15 of this year, but now there is only the following indication of the post, which can be seen on the portal CBR:

Tweet sparks debate: which is best? HQ or manga?

Despite what happened and the photo is no longer available, this publication ended up motivating some reflections on the topic. This is because we don’t need to divide the two niches and decide which is best, since each one is best for the reader who consumes it.

However, there is one thing that draws attention, which is the fact that manga are doing even better recently.

Mangas dominate the area

According to data from the NPD BookScanmanga sales account for around 53% of the comic book market.

Youth fiction appears with 26% of sales averages and shows that the decline has reached superhero comics, which lost 1.7 percentage points in sales and today only have 4% of public interest.

In other words: manga are dominating the publishing market in a way never seen before. Which is great and shows how the genre has become quite popular, as well as bringing new impressions to this type of reading.

Companies focused on manga sales are doing super well, recording records, which leaves a lot of people surprised and excited.

The most interesting thing is that many believe that this focus on manga is being strengthened by the lack of news from giants Marvel and DC, which further leads readers to look for other genres and formats to read.
