Like this?! Zoro was ALMOST an enemy of Luffy in ‘One Piece’

One Piece“, the acclaimed manga and anime series by Eiichiro Oda, has captivated fans around the world with its epic storytelling and memorable characters. However, a bombshell revelation recently emerged, shedding light on the author’s initial plans for one of the most beloved characters among fans: Roronoa Zoro.

In the world of “One Piece”, Zoro is known as the swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates crew, led by Monkey D. Luffy. However, the story could have turned out very differently if the manga author had stuck to his initial plans.

In the original concept, Zoro was not part of Luffy’s crew. Instead, he was destined to be a member of the Buggy Pirates, led by the eccentric Buggy the Clown.

The meeting between Zoro and Luffy at the Shelltown naval base is a pivotal moment in the story of One Piece. However, in the early stages of development, such a meeting was not in Oda’s plans. Zoro, instead of becoming a pirate hunter, would have been a pirate under Buggy’s orders.

This idea, however, was abandoned by Oda early in development, due to the potential he saw in Zoro. Originally, he would be Buggy’s bodyguard, playing the role of “big brother” in the crew.

However, as the series evolved and the characters developed, this conception was discarded in favor of the fundamental role that Zoro would play in Luffy’s crew.

A wise choice by Oda

Eiichiro Oda’s decision to integrate Zoro into Luffy’s crew as the first member was crucial to the dynamics and success of the series.

The “Buggy” version of Zoro would have been a mere supporting role, without the prominence and depth he achieved as one of the fundamental members of the Straw Hat Pirates.

The reveal of these initial plans gives fans a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the creation of One Piece. This highlights how the evolution of characters and plot can lead to decisions that shape the course of the story of such an iconic work.

Ultimately, Zoro’s journey as a loyal member of Luffy’s crew continues to thrill fans of “One Piece” around the world, standing as a testament to Eiichiro Oda’s creative brilliance.
