“BRZRKR” is a comic book series conceived and written by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kint (“Suicide Squad”, “Wolverine” and “X-Men”) and drawn by Ron Gurney (“Justice Society of America” and “The Amazing Spider-Man”).
The narrative of “BRZRKR” follows an immortal warrior known as Berzerker (or B) as he fights through the centuries in search of the truth behind his existence and how to end it once and for all.
The film raised over $1.4 million in its Kickstarter funding campaign, making the entire release possible and bringing Reeves’ passion project to the shelves of his fans.
Keanu Reeves is one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors, widely regarded as one of the best in the business. In his turn as Neo in the 20th-century closing “Matrix,” he changed the landscape of the sci-fi genre and did so again as world-class assassin John Wick, with his groundbreaking action sequences demonstrating a great deal of purpose.
Now, he intends to achieve that success again, but behind the camera. According to Comic Book, the actor revealed that he is in the running for the possibility of directing the production of “BRZRKR”, his creation.
He created stories and characters for publication by the independent publisher Boom!, which brought the first 12 drawings to newsstands in March 2021.
Boom! is also known for taking on a number of projects and properties that have graced the big screen over the years, including “Planet of the Apes,” “Star Trek,” “Big Trouble in Little China,” “Escape from New York,” “Robocop,” and “Die Hard.”
With tie-inssequels and prequels to all of these properties and more, the brand has proven to generate excitement for old projects that can inspire new releases on the big screen. With “BRZRKR,” they’ve found a property that will flow from page to page, not the other way around.
Several screen projects are in the works so that “BRZRKR” be released. One of them concerns a series with a supposed duration of two seasons via Netflix. And the other work is a cinematic reinterpretation, with live transmission, starring the creator of B, Keanu Reeves.
The film will be written by Mattson Tomlin (“Project Power” and “The Batman“), who recently took to social media to announce that he had finished the script and prompted Reeves to talk about the status of the film. He said he hasn’t read the script yet, but there’s a 33% chance he’ll also direct the film.
Reeves went on to say that his directorial debut with “The Man of Tai Chi” came about because he invested so much time developing the project that when it came time to find a director, he couldn’t deliver.
In the case of “BRZRKR,” he could definitely try to do the same thing, as this project was created by him and is similar to “The Man of Tai Chi,” however, Reeves remains open to the possibility of a collaborator.
With the artist’s ability to restructure an entire industry based on his designs, “BRZRKR” has the potential to completely change future designs.
