Award-winning makeup artist John Caglione Jr., known for his Emmy and Oscar, shared the story behind Joker’s lipstick on The Make Up Artists Workshop account. The red blur around the villain’s mouth is one of the character’s trademarks.
The professional stated that he did not specifically choose the color, but, in fact, bought all the reds available and let Ledger decide which color to use.
“I bought every red lipstick I could find from CVS and Walgreens and had them all available on the table during Heath’s makeup test. And he went straight for it. We shot ‘The Dark Knight’ for about seven months and I used all of those lipsticks on him,” Caglione Jr. reveals.
