By far the most viewed content on illegal IPTV services is sports events. Rights holders know this very well and are absolutely fed up with pirates making fun of them, sometimes going so far as to comment on the matches they themselves broadcast. Moreover, the latter are trying to do their best by appealing to justice. If the fight against this phenomenon in general still seems too difficult, sometimes a victory advances the cause.
Until now, French justice had only instructed operators to block pirated sites and platforms broadcasting French sports events. A status quo that no longer exists since May 7th. On this date, the Paris judicial court approved the blocking request of the Spanish football league La Liga. As a result, many pirate platforms will be blocked by French operators.
Spanish football banned from pirated IPTV services
All La Liga first and second division matches will be affected in the 2023-2024 season. The request has not yet been postponed for future seasons, but after this legal victory it is easy to imagine that the Spanish federation will renew its request in due course. Justice now orders Orange, Bouygues Telecom, Free, SFR and Outremer Telecom to block platforms affected by the outbreak “any effective means”.
Internet service providers were also instructed to block platforms that were not mentioned in the judicial report and broadcast the matches in question. In addition, the referees are calling on the spectators to fulfill their duties by contacting Arcom and reporting the pirate platforms broadcasting unauthorized broadcasts in La Liga.
