He’s spoken out! ‘The Witcher’ author breaks his silence on Netflix

Since its release in 2019, Netflix’s fantasy series starring Henry Cavill, ‘The Witcher’, has stood out as a successful adaptation of the works of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.

It seems that there are conflicts behind the scenes of the plot. This is because the author of the books that originated the series revealed that he was ignored by the production team of ‘The Withcer’ in a recent interview he gave to the YouTube channel Cerealkillers.

The information arrives and does not surprise many people, mainly due to the rumors circulating about the possible departure of Henry Cavill from ‘The Witcher’ and other details involving the series.

‘The Witcher’: Author says he gave ideas but wasn’t listened to

Sapkowski shared his experience collaborating with the Netflix in the adaptation of his work for the screen. Despite adopting a diplomatic stance, the author admitted that his suggestions were largely disregarded.

He comments that the production scenario is excellent, but that he gave too many ideas and Netflix never listened to him. Sapkowski even commented, jokingly, that in the end this is normal, after all he is ‘just’ the writer.

The author also expressed his views on the adaptations, mentioning that while some have a pleasant visual impression for him, others are simply strange.

He did not elaborate on the criticism, but made it clear that his contributions were not fully considered in the creative process.

As for Sapkowski’s role in Season 3, the circumstances he outlines are not uncommon in the world of adaptations, in which original authors often have limited input into the production.

The negative reception to the third season of ‘The Witcher’ raises questions about the possible need for closer collaboration with the author.

Not content with the complaints, the third season of ‘The Witcher’ received a dismal 19% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The negative feedback is directly linked to the departure of Henry Cavill and controversial circumstances.

Reports suggest creative differences between Cavill, who is passionate about the source material and game adaptations, and the series’ creative team contributed to the decision.

In addition to Cavill’s departure, viewers have cited narrative issues as another source of complaints. Some of these issues stem from the second season’s confusing chronology and structure, while others stem from significant deviations from Sapkowski’s Witcher novels.
