An unrealized ‘Hercules’ project
When talking about ‘Hercules II: The Trojan War’, fascinating details emerge. In this unproduced sequel, Hercules and his companion Meg would have lived in Athens with Hebe, his daughter.
The plot would unfold around the kidnapping of Helen of Troy, a longtime friend of Hercules, by Paris of Troy.
The story proposed Hercules’ participation in the famous war, adding depth to the narrative and an opportunity for Disney revisit and correct some of the mythological changes made previously.
Repercussion and legacy
Despite the good performance at the box office, ‘Hercules‘ did not achieve the resounding success of other Disney titles.
Even with mostly positive reviews, highlighting James Woods’ performance as Hades, the animation style and soundtrack divided opinions.
The film remains a cult classic, but this context may have influenced the decision not to move forward with the planned sequel.
The missed opportunity
