If there’s one thing that can’t be taken away from the late Salto, it’s that the death of the “French Netflix” produced a few little children. TF1 became the first company to participate in the lottery with TF1+ launched at the beginning of 2024. It was only a matter of time before its longtime rival struck back with its own SVOD service. So it’s hard to be surprised when M6 announces its launch into this decidedly very popular streaming space.
Nicolas de Tavernost, CEO of the M6 group, explains his plans in this field in the columns of Le Figaro. More precisely, the future ex-CEO, because this interview was, first of all, an opportunity for the businessman to announce his departure from the management of M6. His successor was appointed by David Larramendy, the current head of the Advertising department. Therefore, he will take on the heavy task of managing the launch of the M6+.
M6+ streaming platform will be announced on March 6
“Our goals are clear: at least double consumption on the platform with 1 billion hours consumed and triple streaming revenue to reach €200 million by 2028.” He shifts Nicolas de Tavernost to Figaro. Ambitious goals, especially in a market already largely occupied by American giants and in which TF1 has already invested. Moreover, if no details about the future platform have been announced yet, it is easy to imagine that it will follow the TF1+ model.
Therefore, we expect a completely free SVOD service along with a paid plan to remove ads; This will differentiate it from its bigger sister 6Play Max. This should offer all of M6’s programs as well as TV series and movies exclusive to it. Finally, reruns of the channel’s programs will likely be available immediately after they air. Nicolas de Tavernost will meet us on March 6 to learn more about this new project.
