At South Koreamilitary enlistment is one of those commitments that no one can escape. It’s like paying taxes or waiting in line at the supermarket: an inevitability of life.
Everyone from the guy at the corner coffee shop to that actor you love has to go through this ritual for about eighteen months in the ranks of the army.
BTS in the army
Two members of the super famous South Korean music group BTS, RM and V, decided to take on this journey together.
No matter how brilliant and charismatic they are on stage, when the South Korean government calls, everyone answers, even K-pop stars.
Before embarking on this military journey, young people have precious time to receive messages and good vibes from their loved ones.
And believe it or not, even global pop stars like RM receive messages in unusual ways.

Message from one in particular
In the case of the leader of the BTSan unusual surprise occurred in the form of a video on TikTok — a message from the Grinch, that green, furry creature from Whoville who loves to steal the Christmas spirit.
A group of lucky ARMYs visiting Universal Studios managed to persuade the Grinch to send a special message to RM.
The content begins with the Grinch, with his characteristic mischievous smile, promising to send Christmas cheer to the South Korean singer.
It seems that even the Grinch’s cold heart softened a bit to wish RM good luck during his military service. Check out the full video:
As seen in the moving message from Grinch For RM, the furry green character not only wished Christmas joy, but also made sure to convey something deeper.
Pointing to his butt, the Grinch paused comically to state that RM carried a great and important burden, just like the Grinch himself.
The quirky analogy, which mixes the Grinch’s signature humor with a dash of sincerity, resonated in a unique way.
So, amidst the bright lights of Christmas and the festive atmosphere of the end of the year, RM and V, along with other young South Koreans, joined the army. A break from their music careers to fulfill their patriotic duty.
Who would have thought that even K-pop idols can receive special and unusual messages before marching off to military training.
After all, in South Korea, conscription is an experience that everyone shares, regardless of fame or popularity.
