Golden Globes: 64 voters threaten boycott after alleged exclusion from ceremony

The imminent edition of Golden Globescheduled for January 7, is already facing turbulence as 64 voters threaten to boycott the awards show.

The reason? An alleged exclusion of members from the ceremony, even after being invited to a party associated with the event, as reported by TheWrap.

Voters would have received an email informing them that they were invited to a celebration at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the same location as the ceremony, but in a separate room, without access to the main awards ceremony.

The situation caused discomfort among new and veteran members, which led 64 of them to consider not casting their final votes, representing about 20% of the voting body.

Contacted by TheWrap, the Golden Globes organization, led by Helen Hoehne, did not respond to questions about the incident so far.

This isn’t the first time the awards show has been the subject of controversy. Recently, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (formerly the HFPA), which is responsible for the Golden Globes, faced criticism for its lack of diversity and questionable practices, which led to a series of reformulations and boycotts by the industry and the press.

This year, the Golden Globes were acquired by Dick Clark Productions, which plans to use the HFPA’s available assets to establish the Golden Globe Foundation, continuing the charitable traditions of the long-standing association.

The ceremony will be broadcast in Brazil on TNT and HBO Max. Among the most nominated are ‘Succession’ in the television category, with nine nominations, ‘Barbie‘ and ‘Oppenheimer’ with eight and nine nominations, respectively, in the film category.

The Golden Globe Awards, one of the highest honors in the film and television industries, are awarded by votes from 93 members associated with the international media outside the United States.

The ceremony, held annually since 1961 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, now faces uncertainty arising from the possible dissatisfaction of its voters.
