Choosing a name for your son or daughter is not an easy task. Parents think about references, do research and often end up deciding to honor a family member or loved one.
However, some motivations can be unusual. This is what happened to the author of an anonymous post on Reddit. The man decided to ask people on social media for their opinions about the decision he made to name his son, as he wrote:
“My wife and I are expecting our first child. Ever since we found out we were expecting a boy, we started thinking about names for the baby. Since I am a fan of a manga, I decided to name my son after one of the characters, Shion.”
The big question is: the child’s mother didn’t like the idea of paying tribute at all.Shion“, a character from the animation “Knights of the Zodiac”. According to the publication The Mirror, The author of the post explained that his wife believes that the name could lead to their son being the subject of bad jokes in the future, as well as the possibility of bringing “bad energy”, as the character is set in a dystopian world.
“My wife is completely against the idea and says it is an unconventional name, which will make our son the target of rudeness and teasing because of his unusual name.”
The task of convincing the wife about the name
The couple’s great impasse made the husband seek help from users of Reddit. He wonders if he is wrong to continue insisting on the unusual name, while his wife still doesn’t accept it. According to the husband, he has even suggested other names to please both of their tastes.
At the Reddit, Several Internet users gave their opinions in an attempt to help the father with this impasse. One of them said that he agreed with his wife in not following her husband’s idea. Another gave his testimony about the difficulty regarding his own name, but suggested a way for the couple to reach a compromise. See:
“You have no idea how much I want to change my name to a more common one! Since it’s an uncommon name, your child will face the same problem. Try talking to your wife about using the idea as a middle name.”
