‘Dragon Ball’: series creator surprises with an unprecedented version of Goku Super Saiyan 4

In an unexpected announcement, the acclaimed creator of “Dragon Ball“, Akira Toriyama, revealed to the world his personal interpretation of Super Saiyan 4 from Goku. This depiction marks the first time Toriyama has illustrated this iconic form.

Toriyama’s new approach incites intense debate among fans about whether it surpasses the version seen in “Dragon Ball GT”, a non-canonical work that was shown between 1996 and 1997.

Toriyama’s interpretation is an ingenious fusion of Great Ape and Super Saiyan characteristics. Initially, the master considered adopting golden hair, but opted for a black hue to better integrate with the reddish fur characteristic of this transcendental form. Check out:

On the other hand, “Dragon Ball GT” received several criticisms for diverging from Toriyama’s authentic style, departing considerably from the manga’s original plot.

In Super Saiyan 4 form, Goku appears after transforming into Golden Oozaru, when he sees his granddaughter Pan crying to calm him down. His strength surpasses that of Super Baby Vegeta 2, making him invulnerable to his opponent’s attacks. When Baby Vegeta takes the form of Golden Oozaru, the battle evens out.

After an intense fight, Goku receives energy from his friends and defeats Baby with a powerful 10x Kamehameha. This blow finishes off the Tsufurujin parasite, forcing Baby to leave Vegeta’s body and try to escape on a ship.

However, before escaping, Goku launches a final Kamehameha, sending Baby towards the sun, which results in his definitive destruction.

The striking similarity in designs has fans pondering the potential developments in the anime if Toriyama collaborated more closely with Toei Animation on future productions.

Despite “Dragon Ball GT” not having achieved the same level of success as previous productions, it left an important legacy by presenting a new evolution for one of the series’ most emblematic characters, who won, at least in part, a special place in the hearts of fans.
