Don’t like it? Snyder reacts to ‘Justice League’ joke in ‘Barbie’

Zack Snydera filmmaker known for his work on films such as ‘300’ and ‘Watchmen’, recently shared his opinion on a joke regarding his film in the Greta Gerwig-directed ‘Barbie’ starring Margot Robbie.

In an interview with Men’s Health magazine, Snyder revealed his reaction to learning that ‘Barbie‘ would make a joke about ‘Justice League’.

Zack Snyder’s reaction

In the movie ‘Barbie’, one specific scene stands out. Alexandra Shipp, who plays Barbie, after freeing herself from patriarchal thoughts, mentions that she is “very interested in Zack Snyder’s version of ‘Justice League’”.

This reference was previously communicated to Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder’s wife and producer, by Warner Bros. Pictures. Producer Michael DeLuca assured that the joke would be respectful and hoped the Snyders would understand it.

Zack Snyder expressed his admiration for the movie ‘Barbie’ and appreciation for the joke.

He highlighted the cultural relevance of his work, reflecting on how its association with a pop culture phenomenon like ‘Justice League’ became fodder for a joke in a film of the magnitude of ‘Barbie’.

Zack Snyder was originally the director of the film ‘Justice League‘, 2017. However, due to internal issues at Warner studio, in addition to the incident that occurred with his daughter in March 2017, the director left the film, being replaced by Joss Whedon.

The 2017 film did not receive very favorable reviews and, in addition, struggled at the box office.

For this reason, Zack Snyder mobilized his fan base on social media, who begged the studio to release the director’s original version, known as the ‘Snydercut’.

The film ended up being released in 2021, straight to streaming services, with around 242 minutes in length and was slightly longer than the original film.

However, the more violent and supposedly more mature tone of the film did not go unnoticed by the public, which led the film ‘Barbie’ to make the joke. Check out the trailer below:
