Rob Liefeld, the renowned comic artist responsible for creating the ‘Deadpool’, officially announced his retirement from the character after 33 years of remarkable stories and illustrations.
The farewell to the iconic anti-hero will be carried out through one last edition, promising to end the journey in an epic way. The news was shared by Liefeld himself in an emotional post on Instagram.

In a statement posted to his Instagram account, Rob Liefeld stated:
“I’m retiring from Deadpool. It’s official. Yes, after 33 years of not only introducing Deadpool, but also chronicling many of his most popular adventures, it’s time for Deadpool’s daddy to say goodbye.”
Liefeld expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to create and shape the character’s universe that has become a cultural phenomenon.
‘Deadpool’s’ latest crazy adventure
Liefeld revealed that as part of his farewell, he is working on one last ‘Deadpool’ story, described as ‘wild’ and billed as an all-ages collaboration.
Marvel welcomed the idea enthusiastically, and the comic artist has already started production on the narrative, which is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2024 (between June and September).

In his reflections, Liefeld highlighted the milestones throughout his career, from the creation of Deadpool to the success of other creations such as Cable, Domino and Stryfe.
He shared the joy of seeing his works achieve record sales and become an essential part of the Marvel universe.
Liefeld, now 57, emphasized the importance of ending this journey while his eyes and hand-eye coordination are still fully functioning.
Created by him in partnership with Fabian Nicieza, Deadpool debuted in comics in December 1990. Initially presented as a supervillainthe character soon turned into an antihero adored by fans around the world.
Deadpool’s unique ability to break the fourth wall and his quirky sense of humor have earned him a dedicated fan base.
The character’s popularity extended beyond the comics, with Ryan Reynolds playing the Misfit Mercenary in the ‘X-Men’ films, including the box office hits ‘Deadpool’ (2016) and ‘Deadpool 2’ (2018).
Reynolds will continue his journey as ‘Deadpool’ in the upcoming film ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ (2024), joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
