During the most recent arc of the ‘Hunter x Hunter’ manga, a considerable increase in dialogue was observed, which raised concerns about the author’s health.
This perception sparked intense debates and questions in the community, which led many to wonder whether such a change would be in any way related to Togashi’s poor health, a topic that has always been present in the concerns of the work’s followers.

Yoshihiro Togashi clarified in an interview that this increase is not related to his ability to draw, thus refuting the idea that it is a result of his poor health.
Recently, Togashi revealed a discarded ending for the mangoif his health prevents him from completing the series, as he recalls how his condition affected the work.
This strengthened the theory that the focus on dialogue rather than art could be related to the author’s situation. However, Togashi stated that this is not true.
During an interview on the Japanese podcast ‘Iwakura and Yoshizumi’s Show’, Togashi’s answers were read by Yumiko Seki, former member of the group Sakurazaka46.
The creator explained five reasons for the increased text in ‘Hunter x Hunter’, all independent of your health.
He highlighted the need to convey detailed information about Nen abilities, the ‘Succession Contest’ and character backgrounds. To this end, the author considered it better to communicate them through text rather than through images.
Togashi has expressed his preference for the written word to allow fans to understand the story, especially given the increasing amount of characters and his desire to develop even the characters secondary. Such a more ambitious narrative approach required the addition of more dialogues and monologues to the plot.
